Individual therapy

One to one, at your pace

For adults who would like a clinician to talk with, wherever they live in Maine.

Sessions are 50 minutes, by video, by phone or in our Brewer office. You choose the format, and you can change it from one session to the next.

What sessions look like

From the first session to the pace you settle on

No two people use this the same way.

  1. 01

    Step 1: The first session

You talk through what you would like. Your clinician explains how they work, the limits of confidentiality and the possible risks and benefits of therapy.

  2. 02

    Step 2: The sessions after

A conversation at your pace. Your clinician names the methods they use and where they trained, and checks in on whether it is useful to you.

  3. 03

    Step 3: Length and frequency

A session is 50 minutes. How often is up to you and your clinician. We do not promise a number of sessions.

What this is not, and how it is paid

  • What this is not

This is not emergency care, medication management, or an evaluation for a court or for disability benefits. If you need one of those, we help you find someone who provides it.

  • How it is paid

With insurance, by paying yourself, or a mix. Your fee is given to you in writing before you start. The fees page explains the rest.

Questions about individual therapy

Can I do every session by phone?

Yes. A phone session is a real session, and many people here prefer it. Tell your clinician which you would like.

Can I switch to a different clinician?

Yes. Tell us, and we match you with someone else. You do not have to explain.

How long will I need to come?

Your clinician sets the pace with you. We do not promise a number of sessions, and you can stop whenever you decide to.
