Group programs

Small groups, by video

Six groups, each led by a licensed clinician, each with no more than eight people.

Groups meet by video, so people from Kittery to Fort Kent can join the same room. A clinician talks with you before you join, to see whether the group is a good match. Everyone in a group agrees to keep what is said there private, and your clinician explains what that can and cannot promise.

The groups

Who each group is for, and who leads it

Days and times are the same each week. Camera on or off is your choice.

  • Evening check-in

A weekly hour with the same small group. Some weeks people have a lot to say and some weeks very little, and both are fine.

    • Tuesdays, 6:30 p.m.

    • Any adult who wants steady company between sessions

    • Led by Dr. Lakshmi Chandrasekhar

  • Caregivers

A lunchtime group for people who cannot leave the house for long. Join from the kitchen, the porch or the parked car.

    • Wednesdays, 12:15 p.m.

    • Adults looking after a parent, partner or child at home

    • Led by Tiffany Bronson

  • Working the land and water

For people whose hours do not fit an office schedule. The group moves its time by an hour in the busiest months, by agreement.

    • Thursdays, 7:00 p.m.

    • Adults whose work follows the season: farming, fishing, logging and the trades

    • Led by Gene Walker

  • Men's group

A room where you can say what you would not say at the diner. What is said stays in the group.

    • Mondays, 7:00 p.m.

    • Men who would rather talk with other men

    • Led by Jake Reed

  • Parents of teenagers

Parents compare notes and think out loud. It is not family therapy, and your teenager does not take part.

    • Wednesdays, 6:30 p.m.

    • Parents and stepparents of teenagers, with no teenagers in the room

    • Led by Channary Meas

  • Winter circle

A seasonal group that starts when the clocks go back and ends in March.

    • Sundays, 4:00 p.m., November to March

    • Adults who want company through the dark months

    • Led by Josefa Cerda

How a group works

Before, during and after

  1. 01

    Step 1: Before

You write to us, and a clinician talks with you for a short while about the group and about what you would like from it. You can decide not to join.

  2. 02

    Step 2: During

Each meeting runs about 75 minutes. Everyone takes part as much or as little as they like. The clinician keeps the time and the ground rules.

  3. 03

    Step 3: After

You can stay for as long as the group runs. If it is not right for you, tell the clinician, and we help you find another group or individual sessions.

What this is not, and how it is paid

  • What this is not

A group is not a substitute for individual therapy if you need one-to-one care, and it is not emergency care. Others in a group agree to keep things private, but we cannot guarantee that they will.

  • How it is paid

Each group has its own fee, given to you in writing before you join. Some insurance plans pay for group therapy, and we tell you in writing what applies to yours.

    How fees work

Which group fits your week?

Write to us and tell us which one caught your eye. We reply in writing, and a clinician follows up.
